Maputo City Elimination
Two words for you: Joao Rodrigues.
Get used to this name. It will be your worst nightmare …
Quite a turn out for the Elimination which kicked off at 8:20 with two neutral laps. Werner took two sprints, Vicente walked away with one and Abilio’s break earned him one sprint. Beyond that it was hello, goodbye, thank you very much sirs, see you after the race as Joao took off after the sixth lap never to be seen again. By the end of the race he had half a lap on second place (2Km), the bunch finding it impossible to reel Joao back in. He was a cut above the rest.
Well, the Elimination race has never been an easy one and for the second time in a row this year Duncan Wyness’s legs gave up after 11 laps.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was none other than Richard Fair who almost had a shot at the podium after Alvaro’s shoes unclipped from the pedals. Richard settled for fourth. He rode a brilliant tactical race and clearly his training for the off road Epic has reaped rewards on the road. How soon will it be before we see Richard on the podium? Son Tim better start looking over his shoulder.
On one of the laps after Joao had broken away, the spectators on the side of the road were overheard commenting that the guys in Laurentina drink too much that’s why Joao was ahead and winning. Not good … not good
Special thanks to the league sponsors Thompsons Mozambique Adviser for making the event possible. Thanks to the riders for believing … We’re getting there … See you all at the Goba Individual Time Trial.
